Palm oil crisis
The biggest threat to orangutans is the rampant clearance of their forest habitat for the production of Palm Oil.

Illegal trade
The illegal killing of great apes for bush meat is widespread across Africa, and illegal exports of live animals continues both from Africa and South East Asia.

Rain forest issues
Legal and illegal logging, forest clearing for farming, and fragmentation from road building all pose huge threats to all great ape species.
