Where found
Bonobo (Pan paniscus)
The bonobos are found only in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in the heart of the Congo Basin Forest in the Salonga National Park.

Habitat
Primary lowland forest, open woodland savanna, dry forest, swamp forest, marsh grassland, and disturbed secondary forest.

Diet
Primarily fruit, but also leaves, pith, flowers, seeds, nuts, sprouts, mushrooms and algae. They will also eat earthworms, larvae, termites, ants, honey, truffles, aquatic plants, invertebrates and fish.

Numbers surviving
Most published estimate put their numbers at approximately 15,000.

Threats
Hunting for food and for the bush meat trade, and deforestation.
